The Madagascar Open Swimming Championships in a 25m pool kicked off this Thursday at the Saint-Gabriel College pool in Mahajanga. “Just like the 50m pool championships held in April at the ANS Ampefiloha, this short-course summit is open to all licensed swimmers to broaden the detection of potential talents for the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games,” emphasized National Technical Director (DTN) Vony Andriamanantena.
Nearly two hundred swimmers from seven regional leagues are participating. “The ranking test by category and for all categories combined, particularly for the U19s, is taking place on the sidelines of the championship,” the technical director added.
Qualifying rounds are scheduled for every morning, with finals in the afternoon. The DTN expressed some concern regarding swimmers’ performance due to the short preparation time, as pools were closed in June and July due to the lack of heated facilities.
This championship will no longer serve as a selection event for the World Championships in December. World Aquatics scholarship holders will represent the country, namely Jonathan Raharvel, Holy Antsa Rabejaona, and Francky Ramiakatrarivo.
“Francky is a beneficiary of the World Aquatics Scholarship; he was previously in France and is currently expected to be training in Bahrain,” explained DTN Vony Andriamanantena.
