WEATHER – A depression brings precipitation

Local showers are expected in several regions of Madagascar over the weekend. “An upper-level depression is currently evolving in South Africa. This disturbance will move closer to Madagascar. The passage of this system will directly influence local weather and lead to meteorological deterioration,” explained Lovandrainy Ratovoarisoa Andriambelomasinasolo, a forecaster at the General Directorate of Meteorology, yesterday.

These rains are expected at the end of the week or the beginning of next week in the Analamanga, Anosy, Androy, Atsimo-Atsinanana, and Vakinankaratra regions. They are then expected to extend to Alaotra-Mangoro.

A rise in temperatures is also announced, which will have a direct impact on the weather. According to the explanations, this temperature increase causes warm and humid air to rise in altitude. This phenomenon creates large storm clouds, called convective clouds, which will cause local rains.

Strong wind and high swell warnings will be in effect starting Wednesday, August 12, on the central-west, south-west, south, and south-east coasts of the country. A clear deterioration of sea conditions is expected along the west, south, and south-east coasts, namely the Melaky, Menabe, Atsimo Andrefana, Androy, Anosy, and Atsimo Atsinanana regions. Waves could reach 3 to 3.5 meters, with peaks of 4 meters in the south-west zone and the southern tip of Madagascar.
