One year behind schedule, the Carion National Technical Center has undergone a makeover after 20 years of existence. Renovation work is apparently complete. The twenty-five players selected for the first U17 generation following the ‘Best against the Best’ tournament, held as part of the FIFA ‘Talent Development Scheme’ which concluded on Sunday after two weeks, will be the first residents of the site.
The center was originally scheduled to be operational in July 2025 following eight months of renovation work launched on December 13, 2024. ‘These selected young talents will spend a few weeks of vacation at home after this tournament. They are expected to join the academy around mid-September, just after the inauguration of the Carion center,’ noted Solonirina Ratovohery, a member of the executive committee of the Malagasy Football Federation, on Sunday.
The renovation of the site was subsidized by FIFA under the FIFA Forward project, amounting to 2 million dollars, or 8.5 billion ariary. The work included replacing the synthetic turf to meet FIFA standards, with a playing surface of 109m x 68m, and the construction of a 500-seat grandstand. The project also included the rehabilitation of the cafeteria, sanitary facilities, and the auditorium, as well as the development of the parking area.
