Some vehicles continue to circulate with non-compliant lights, despite the ban. At dawn on Sunday, on National Route 2, motorists had to stop when encountering vehicles equipped with LED strips. “I couldn’t see anything when faced with that blinding light,” testified Jao Raharison, a driver.
However, road safety control operations are continuing. During an operation conducted by the National Police and the General Directorate of Road Safety (DGSR) on Friday, August 7, 2026, in Analakely and its surroundings, several vehicles equipped with these lights were stopped. Out of 90 vehicles checked and intercepted, 23 were using LED lights. Regarding two-wheelers, 104 motorcyclists were intercepted, 12 of whom were using LED lights. They were subject to awareness-raising and a reminder of the rules.
The National Police regularly reminds road users of the ban on non-approved multicolored lighting, such as non-compliant LED lights. As major factors in traffic accidents, these devices are once again in the sights of the authorities, as the number of road tragedies has been on the rise recently.
