Property owners affected by the expropriations for the Flyover project have begun receiving their compensation. They have a one-month deadline after payment to vacate the premises.
The countdown has begun for homeowners in the Anosizato Atsinanana fokontany. Once compensated, they have one month to leave. “Demolition of the houses will take place one month after the compensation payment,” a project official stated.
Compensation payments have started for the 215 individuals affected by the first phase of the project. “About twenty people in our fokontany already received their compensation on Thursday, and others received theirs on Friday,” confirmed the head of the Anosizato Atsinanana fokontany.
Expropriated residents are now organizing their relocation, searching for new housing or business locations. Some are preparing to dismantle their homes to salvage reusable materials. “After this one-month period, the company will intervene to complete the demolition,” the technician added.
According to the official, over 60% of the affected individuals have already been compensated. For pending files due to missing documents, residents are advised to contact the fokontany head to regularize their situation. The source emphasized that no house will be demolished before the effective payment of the corresponding compensation.
These displacements also affect local services. A ticket agent for the Kofitsiro transport cooperative, which operates between Anosizato and Arivonimamo, noted that the ticket office and terminus are expected to be relocated across the street by the end of the month.
The initial work for the Flyover project involves building a new bridge parallel to the existing one. Currently, aside from fencing installed to mark the construction site, few developments are visible.
“The company has set a two-year implementation schedule. Site installation is currently underway. A complementary study on the foundations of the new bridge will also be conducted,” the source explained.
Residents affected by the second phase of the project, which includes the widening of the RN1, are also preparing to leave. “We have already found a new location to continue our business once we have to leave. It is located just behind our current roadside shop,” said Voahary, manager of a motorcycle spare parts business in Anosizato. Many affected by the second phase emphasized that they will only leave once they have effectively received their compensation.
