ATHLETICS – MADAGASCAR CHAMPIONSHIP – Analamanga demonstrates its power

Analamanga dominated the Madagascar Athletics Championship across all categories and seniors. With one year to go before the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games (JIOI), the level displayed highlights the significant work that remains to be done.

The Madagascar Athletics Championship concluded at the Alarobia stadium track. In the senior category, Analamanga topped the league rankings with an impressive haul of 62 medals, including 27 gold, 21 silver, and 14 bronze. This clear dominance confirms the depth of the league’s talent pool across various disciplines.

Atsimo Andrefana finished in second place with 20 medals (6 gold, 4 silver, 10 bronze), while Diana completed the podium with 18 medals (5 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze).

Individually, Ny Aina Anna Andrianjafy from the Esaa Analamanga club was a standout figure, winning five gold medals in the 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 4x100m, and 4x400m. In the men’s category, Tojo Mamisoa from Cosfa Analamanga secured three national titles in the 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m.

Beyond the results, the championship served as a gauge for the progress needed ahead of the 2027 JIOI in Comoros. Tsiry Manantena Rakotomalala, Technical Director of the Malagasy Athletics Federation, expressed concerns, noting that the current level is far from the standards required for the Games. He estimates that out of 46 gold medals at stake in the JIOI, Madagascar could currently expect only about eight, based on the performances observed.

The challenge now is to elevate these national results to a level capable of competing with the best nations in the region.
