More than thirty years after its formation and ten years after the passing of Omgui, Ny Ainga continues to keep its legacy alive through a unique anniversary concert.
Ten years after the death of its founder, Omgui, Ny Ainga has chosen to look toward the future without forgetting its roots. On August 16th at 2:00 PM, the group will return to the Antsahamanitra stage for a tribute concert designed as a celebration of its heritage and proof that its musical journey continues.
While Omgui was the primary composer, the creative process never stopped. Other songwriters in the group continue his work, in accordance with the wishes of his family, who entrusted them with the mission to carry on. Since the leader’s passing, Ny Ainga has released three albums and now boasts nearly four hundred songs. The group prioritizes live performances to showcase new creations and continues to respond to numerous requests across Madagascar, in line with its values of transmission and education.
Composed of eighteen members, including singers, musicians, and dancers, Ny Ainga maintains the organization established by its founder. The departure of some artists, notably Tsanta and Patty who moved abroad, has not compromised this continuity. The group always leaves them the possibility of returning to the stage when they are visiting Madagascar.
The concert will be marked by a strong participatory dimension. Part of the repertoire was chosen based on suggestions from fans posted on the group’s Facebook page. The most requested songs will join a selection tracing the entire history of Ny Ainga, from its beginnings to tracks composed after Omgui’s death. No guest artists will take the stage: only members of Ny Ainga will perform, joined by former members of the group, notably Tantely Ny Feo and Zoky Doda, who will perform several pieces with the current lineup.
With over thirty years of career, Ny Ainga attributes its longevity to lyrics carrying messages, timeless melodies, and a musical universe inspired by country music, enriched with varied rhythms. Keen to preserve the authenticity of its repertoire, the group is also preparing a new adaptation of its old tracks using current technologies, while respecting their arrangements, lyrics, and identity.
For Ny Ainga, the challenge is now clear: Omgui is gone, but his legacy continues to live as long as the public accompanies the group in this new chapter of its history.
