SCHOOL SPORTS – Mahajanga to Host the 2026 National School Games

Mahajanga will host the National School Sports Games (JNSS) 2026 from August 10 to 16. Under the theme “Sôma Mavaraka,” this edition will bring together students aged 12 to 17 from all 23 regions of Madagascar. Organizers promise a sporting and cultural competition focused on fair play, safety, and inclusion.

The official launch was announced on Tuesday during a press conference at the Ministry of National Education in Anosy, where the event logo was unveiled. Three ministries—National Education, Technical Education and Vocational Training, and Youth and Sports—have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring an exemplary competition across disciplines including athletics, football, basketball, handball, and disability sports.

Combating age fraud among participants is a top priority. “The Ministry of Youth and Sports will be present to support the technical aspects. We ask everyone to avoid age fraud, as it harms Malagasy sports,” stated Harinirina Rajohanesa Brice, Acting Director General of Sports.

He added, “School sports are the foundation of sports in general. The ministry pays special attention to this by integrating it into the general sports policy of Madagascar.”

The National Office for the Prevention of School Accidents of Madagascar (ONaPASCOMA) is responsible for insurance and risk prevention during the event. All participants will undergo medical and somatic examinations and wear identification bracelets to ensure monitoring throughout the Games.

The 2026 JNSS will also emphasize inclusion by integrating disability sports events. Organizers aim to promote equal opportunities and combat all forms of discrimination in the spirit of the “Sôma Mavaraka” theme.
