Agents of the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) have gone on strike, causing significant disruptions for users. Yesterday afternoon, tensions rose at the 3rd Arrondissement office as citizens waiting to collect civil status documents were told that no services would be provided on Monday, August 3rd, and Tuesday, August 4th.
Frustrated users, some traveling from as far as Mahitsy, expressed their anger over the lack of prior notification. This marks the second time in a week that services have been halted in this district, leaving many, like Nicole Rasoaheriniana, unable to meet urgent administrative deadlines.
While the 3rd Arrondissement suspended services, other districts like the 5th Arrondissement continued to operate normally. Meanwhile, at Analakely, the CUA employees’ union (SMKAR) reported low turnout for the protest due to alleged intimidation. Consequently, the union decided to suspend the strike while maintaining their demand for housing allowances, a point of contention among different CUA unions regarding whether the state or the commune should bear the cost.
