The FFKM now has an operational headquarters to prepare for the national consultation. At the request of the Council of Christian Churches of Madagascar (FFKM), the President of the Republic’s Refoundation has made four buildings located at Village Voara, Andohatapenaka, available to serve as its headquarters.
During a site visit, the Minister of Land Management and Land Services, General Lylison René de Rolland, stated that he was acting on the instructions of the Head of State to officially hand over the keys to the FFKM, which will lead the national consultation. In Egypt, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina had already mentioned to members of the Malagasy diaspora that the FFKM was waiting for this headquarters before it could launch the national consultation.
For his part, the Secretary General of the FFKM, Reverend Vonjisoa Tahina Ranaivoarivelo, welcomed this initiative. He explained that the Council had requested a workspace from the President of the Refoundation to prepare and coordinate the national consultation. Some premises will house the Council’s offices, others will serve as meeting rooms, and a space will be reserved for church leaders.
According to the Head of State, with the provision of this headquarters, nothing should hinder the start of the national consultation. In his statement in Cairo, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina also indicated that the financial aspect should not be a problem, as everything will be covered by internal resources.
Initially, the Ministry of Refoundation had planned a national consultation over a six-month period, with two months of consultations in the fokontany, two months in the communes and districts, one month in the regions, and one month devoted to the national assembly in Antananarivo. However, this schedule is no longer current following the June 3 meeting between the Executive and the FFKM, according to an authorized source at the ministry. The Christian Council is now responsible for establishing its own timeline.
The ministry also denied any disagreement with the FFKM. According to the authorities, the conduct of the national consultation is now entirely the responsibility of the Christian Council of Churches of Madagascar. The Ministry in charge of Refoundation provides technical and logistical support, while the Prime Minister’s Office retains overall responsibility for the Refoundation process, which is considered a public policy of the State.
Postponed three times, the national consultation is intended to serve as the basis for drafting the Constitution of the Fifth Republic, whose adoption by referendum is envisaged for June 2027.
