The national track and field championships for the U16, U18, and U20 categories concluded without any new records, yet several athletes displayed promising potential. Over three days at the Alarobia stadium, young talents from various regional leagues competed in sprints, hurdles, relays, middle-distance, and field events.
The competition highlighted several prospects for the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games (JIOI) in Comoros. Notable performances included Fabrice Arimonja (ASPNATO/50) in the U18 boys’ sprint, Bernadette Landisoa (ASPNATO/50) in the U18 girls’ sprint, and Embony Andyh (ESAA/Analamanga) in the U20 girls’ category. Eric Justin (COSPN/Analamanga) secured a double victory in the U20 boys’ 100m and 200m.
National Technical Director Tsiry Manantena Rakotomalala noted that while no national records were broken, the determination shown by the youth is encouraging. The upcoming all-category national championships will serve as a further benchmark for the national team’s preparation.
