A strong start. Madagascar recorded three victories out of four qualifying pool matches in the mixed doubles event yesterday, during the first day of the U18 Youth World Championships in Santa Susanna, Spain. The pool matches are played using the Swiss system, with a time limit of one hour plus two additional ends.
The first duo, consisting of Avotiana Eliot Raberanto and Nameno Ramamonjisoa, narrowly defeated the Turkish team 10-9. The Malagasy pair led 4-1 in the fourth end, then extended their lead to 9-4 before the Turks leveled the score at 9-9, only for Madagascar to secure the win in the final extra end.
In the second match, the second duo, Harison Clarito Andriambelonony and Nomena Ramamonjisoa, dominated the host team, Spain, with a 13-2 victory in just thirty minutes. Madagascar controlled the game from the start, leading 4-2 and then 10-2 by the third end. Clarito delivered an impressive performance with a 100% shooting accuracy.
In the afternoon, the Great Island team suffered its only defeat against Belgium during the third round. However, Clarito and Nomena bounced back in the evening, defeating Germany 13-8.
The first round of the mixed triples pool matches kicked off yesterday evening around 8:00 PM, with Madagascar facing England. This Friday morning, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the focus shifts to the precision shooting qualification phase, followed by the quarterfinals. In the late afternoon, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the second, third, and fourth rounds of the triples event will take place. The round of 16 and quarterfinals for both triples and doubles are scheduled for Saturday, followed by the semifinals and the final of the precision shooting in the evening.
