The Malagasy Basketball Federation (FMBB) officially launched the U14 girls’ and boys’ national championships yesterday during a press conference held at the City Hall of Analakely. In the presence of FMBB Vice-President Alain Ramanarivo, the organizers presented the key highlights of this national event, which will bring together the country’s best young basketball players.
This national phase will gather 88 teams, including 40 women’s and 48 men’s squads. The Analamanga league will be prominently represented with 12 teams in each category. Other regional leagues will also participate, aiming to defend their colors and compete against the best national formations.
Beyond the purely sporting aspect, security is one of the organizers’ main concerns. “We will take the necessary measures by focusing on the safety of the athletes, given the current insecurity and waves of disappearances. The FMBB and the Analamanga league are working in concert with law enforcement. However, we cannot disclose the strategies that will be implemented here,” said Alain Ramanarivo, FMBB Vice-President.
Logistically, three courts will be used during the competition. The Mahamasina Gymnasium will host part of the matches, while two basketball courts set up at the Barea Stadium, near the gymnasium, will also be utilized.
This championship will allow players to compete at the highest national level while providing technicians with an opportunity to evaluate the progress of the next generation. Between the quest for national titles, the emergence of new talents, and security imperatives, all the ingredients are in place to make this U14 championship a major event on the FMBB calendar.
