Last year, Los Angeles suffered a massive 24-day wildfire that destroyed thousands of buildings and homes of celebrities. While scientists attribute these disasters to global warming and extreme heat, others interpret them as apocalyptic signs.
In Madagascar, while we are spared from such massive disasters, we face our own challenges with cyclones like Gezani and recurring annual fires, often suspected to be criminal in nature. Furthermore, the lack of firefighting infrastructure makes house fires a daily tragedy. As global warming leads to the drying up of water sources across the Indian Ocean, we find ourselves in a paradox where we must rely on cyclones to replenish our rivers, despite the flooding they bring.
