The Madagascar U23 national teams began their FIBA 3×3 Nations League campaign, held in Gaborone (Botswana) from July 20 to 26, with two narrow defeats against Egypt. The women’s team fell 12-11, followed by the men’s team, who were defeated 13-11. Both Malagasy squads fell just short.
In the women’s category, Madagascar played a highly competitive match before losing by a single point (11-12). The men’s team also matched their opponents blow for blow. After a difficult start, trailing 1-5, the Ankoay men fought back to take the lead (7-6) with just over seven minutes remaining. However, the Egyptians regained control (10-7) and held off a late surge from the Malagasy side in the final seconds to secure a 13-11 victory.
Despite these opening setbacks, both Malagasy teams showed promise against one of the top 3×3 nations in Africa. They will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches to remain in contention during this stage of the Nations League.
