Several glitches disrupted the first day of the Baccalaureate exam. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has reported several anomalies.
Despite strict instructions from the Ministry, some candidates attempted to break the rules. Cases of fraud and regulation violations were recorded in various exam centers yesterday. The most serious incidents involved identity substitution. Professor Angelo Raherinirina, Director General of Higher Education, reported that two individuals were caught red-handed while taking the exam on behalf of the actual candidates in Bezaha and Ambilobe.
The cases have been handed over to law enforcement. Both the imposters and the candidates they replaced face severe administrative and criminal penalties. In Mahabo, a candidate was caught cheating with hidden cheat sheets.
Meanwhile, the strict ban on mobile phones within exam centers was widely ignored. Many candidates were caught with phones in the exam rooms, with some going to extreme lengths to bypass searches, including one candidate who hid a phone in her private parts. Authorities warned that all seized phones will be held until the end of the exams for investigation purposes.
Offending candidates have been excluded from the exam rooms, and their files will be referred to the Disciplinary Council (Codis) to determine further sanctions. While jury members conducted strict inspections, including body searches and bag checks, some candidates still managed to bring phones inside. The ban on connected devices is intended to prevent subject leaks, and officials confirmed that, as of yesterday, no subjects had been leaked.
