The storage warehouses of the Antananarivo Customs Office in Antanimena are set to open to the public. Several lots of goods currently stored in these facilities will be sold at public auction. The General Directorate of Customs explained yesterday that this auction aims to manage stored goods, free up storage space, and monetize items that can be legally sold.
A total of 118 lots of goods are being offered for public auction, including motorcycles, a 4×4 vehicle, clothing, car batteries, and books. The complete list of items, along with minimum starting prices and participation conditions, can be viewed on notice boards at all Customs offices in Madagascar and on the website www.douanes.gov.mg.
According to officials, these are imported goods that were not claimed by their owners within the prescribed time limits (generally two months after being placed in storage). They also include goods seized for customs violations that have since become eligible for sale in accordance with the law, following confiscation, settlement, or other established procedures.
Owners still have the opportunity to recover their goods listed for auction, provided they act before the final sale. To do so, they must regularize their status with Customs by paying the required duties, fees, and associated penalties.
The sale will take place from Monday, August 10, 2026, to Thursday, August 13, with the first two days dedicated to viewing the lots and paying the required deposit.
