The big day has arrived for 233,538 candidates. The 2026 Baccalaureate exams kicked off this Monday morning at the Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo High School (LJJR) in Analakely and the Mahamasina Technical and Vocational High School (LTP). This ceremony marked the official launch of the session, which is under high surveillance. The three relevant ministers—National Education, Technical and Vocational Training, and Higher Education and Scientific Research (Mesupres)—oversaw the opening of the exam papers and reminded center officials of the final protocols.
For this session, 222,679 candidates are taking the general Baccalaureate, and 10,859 are taking the technical Baccalaureate. Among them are a 10-year-old youngest candidate and a 67-year-old oldest candidate registered in Fianarantsoa.
The security of the exam relies on a partnership agreement between Mesupres and the Ministry of Interior and Decentralization. This mechanism coordinates actions at all levels, involving prefects, regional heads, district heads, decentralized territorial authorities, and Joint Conception Bodies (OMC).
According to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Manda-Vy Ravonimanantsoa, the OMCs ensure the security of all stages of the Baccalaureate. Each exam center has a district representative, while district heads oversee the opening of subjects, the drafting of reports, and the smooth running of the tests.
In Antananarivo, the free transport system, which proved successful during the BEPC exams, has been renewed for the 2026 Baccalaureate. A total of 84 Foton buses, supported by nearly 200 defense and security personnel, are mobilized for free across 22 routes starting at 5:30 AM. Candidates must present their exam summons along with a national identity card or a school ID for minors. Each candidate may be accompanied by one person.
Furthermore, all public and municipal gardens in Antananarivo are open to allow candidates and their companions to eat and rest between the various tests.
