The Council of Ministers, in a statement released on July 17, has officially established the wearing of “Malagasy attire” every Friday within the public administration. This initiative, championed by the President of the Refoundation of the Republic, Colonel Michaël Randrianiriana, aims to promote Malagasy identity and enhance the value of the national cultural heritage.
“‘Malagasy attire’ refers to clothing that highlights the cultural identity of Madagascar or the specific characteristics of the country’s various regions. It can be traditional or modernized, provided that it retains the characteristic elements of the Malagasy clothing heritage,” the Council of Ministers’ statement continued.
This specifically includes clothing made from traditional Malagasy fabrics, fibers, patterns, or ornaments, as well as accompanying accessories.
However, the text specifies that the wearing of these outfits must respect the dignity of the public service. It must also remain in compliance with requirements related to the functions performed, particularly regarding safety, hygiene, and occupational health. The wearing of a specific uniform remains mandatory when the nature of the work requires it.
