Mpox continues to circulate in Madagascar. A 26-year-old man has died from the disease in the Diana region, according to Professor Jean de Dieu Mamy Randria, Incident Manager of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP). The information was shared last week during the presentation of the situation report on the evolution of the Mpox epidemic in Madagascar, as of July 17. This new death brings the total number of people who have died from Mpox in the country to eighteen.
Between December 18, 2025, and July 16, 2026, 4,482 cases were reported in the country, including 2,905 confirmed cases. 4,024 tests have been conducted, and 2,047 cases have been declared recovered. The report also indicates 18 deaths, with a positivity rate of 72.19%.
Professor Jean de Dieu Mamy Randria reiterates that Mpox is still circulating in the country. The disease can be fatal if not treated in time. It is therefore important to go to a health facility quickly if symptoms appear.
