Génération Mada is calling for the integration of social-emotional education into the school curriculum.
“The Ministry of National Education has emphasized that investing in early childhood pays off in adulthood. It promotes social justice and peace, while enabling individuals to better succeed in their lives once they grow up,” stated Nathalie Rakotondramoma, program coordinator at Génération Mada, yesterday during the national restitution event for the NGO’s ‘Think Equal 2026’ program held at the Christian Training Center (Fofikri) in Ankadikely Ilafy.
According to an article by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), social and emotional learning is the process through which learners acquire the skills necessary to recognize and manage their emotions, develop empathy, build harmonious relationships, make responsible decisions, and effectively handle difficult situations.
Deployed in five regions since its inception, this program now reaches more than 13,300 children across 378 classrooms, thanks to the commitment of 337 educational actors. The program is yielding results. Collected data reveal spectacular progress at all levels. Among the children, 91.3% know how to identify their own emotions, and 94.3% know how to express them appropriately. Nearly 94% of the children are able to resolve conflicts in a positive manner, while respect for others has increased, according to 99.3% of teachers. All teachers noted a clear improvement in students’ verbal communication.
