MAHAJANGA – The city strengthens its security measures

Preparations are in full swing in Mahajanga as the peak tourist season approaches. The municipality and the OMC (Joint Design Body) are taking action to ensure the city maintains its reputation as a premier destination.

Faced with concerns over kidnappings and a climate of insecurity threatening the population, the Mahajanga OMC, led by the Prefect of Mahajanga, has reiterated the importance of respecting laws and safety recommendations.

“The city of Mahajanga is ready to welcome visitors and tourists. The summer holidays will be marked by peace and tranquility. Everyone should be able to enjoy this rest period, free from worry and insecurity. We are striving to maintain security. We invite those with information regarding kidnappings of children or individuals with albinism to come forward with reliable details. Their identity will be kept confidential,” stated the Prefect of Mahajanga.

Since yesterday, teams from the regional directorates of Public Security and Population and Solidarity of Boeny have been conducting awareness campaigns in crowded public areas, both in the city and rural districts, to address the wave of kidnappings.

Meanwhile, the Mahajanga commune has restored order at Petite Plage, Maroala, and Amborovy. The municipality reaffirms its commitment to providing a clean, peaceful, and attractive environment for visitors and vacationers.

Cleanliness

New organizational measures have been implemented in high-traffic public sites, particularly at seaside resorts. Sanitation of these tourist spots has been mandated. Officials have emphasized cleanliness and general organization to provide a dignified environment. In the city, street vending and the placement of tables and chairs on public roads are now prohibited.

“Our goal is to make Mahajanga a clean, peaceful, and pleasant city. Sidewalks are for pedestrians, and roads are for vehicles. Measures will be taken against those who do not comply,” warned the PDS (President of the Special Delegation) of Mahajanga.

Furthermore, land transport authorities, coordinated by the Land Transport Agency (ATT) of Mahajanga, have launched the “Accident-Free Holidays” operation. This initiative involves the ATT, the National Gendarmerie, the Regional Directorate of Transport, the National Police, and the Vehicle Registration and Technical Inspection centers.

Promoting road safety is a key objective of this initiative. Simultaneously, the municipal police have begun day and night patrols. An operation was conducted at the Mahabibo market to clear public thoroughfares, with street vendors being relocated to authorized areas. A surge in visitors has already been observed in Mahajanga since the end of the week.
