From July 17 to August 7, figurative painter Toavinjanahary Marianno will present an exhibition at Is’Art Galerie, where surrealism becomes the preferred language to probe the contradictions and mysteries of love.
How can one represent a feeling that reason cannot explain? How can one translate into images what escapes all logic? These questions form the core of “When Love is Surreal,” the new exhibition by Toavinjanahary Marianno, held at Is’Art Galerie in Tiers-Lieu Mahatazana. Through a series of figurative paintings and drawings, the artist invites the public to enter a universe where philosophical reflection meets the power of the imagination.
Dedicated to Eros love, this exhibition develops both an intellectual and emotional approach to this universal feeling. The works question its nature, its utility, its relationship to suffering, its atypical manifestations, and the limits of rationality.
Far from providing definitive answers, the works invite visitors to reflect on the multiple dimensions of love and the paradoxes that accompany it. Faced with the impossibility of explaining this phenomenon through logic alone, Toavinjanahary Marianno chooses to shift the focus toward the unconscious. Surrealism becomes the means to express what cannot be formulated by rational thought. Dreams, the irrational, and inner states occupy a central place in this artistic approach, where intuition takes precedence over explanation.
As a figurative painter and draftsman, Andrianasolo Toavinjanahary Marianno continues an artistic research resolutely turned toward surrealism. Inspired by the early representatives of this movement, he adopts its foundations while adapting them to contemporary realities. His work consists of transcending the limits of consciousness to explore the imaginary and the space between wakefulness and unconsciousness, where forms, images, and buried truths emerge.
Through painting and drawing, he gives birth to deeply intuitive works that invite the viewer to look beyond appearances and explore the invisible territories of the mind. With “When Love is Surreal,” Toavinjanahary Marianno continues this artistic quest by offering an immersion into a universe where emotion, imagination, and dreams become the keys to understanding one of the most complex feelings of human experience.
