FESTIVAL DONA-BE – Sofia Region Celebrates Its Cultural Identity

From July 23 to 26, Antsohihy will host the fourth edition of the Festival Dona-Be, an event that will highlight the cultural richness of the Sofia region with an enhanced artistic program.

The culture of Sofia will be at the heart of the fourth edition of the Festival Dona-Be. From July 23 to 26, Antsohihy will vibrate to the rhythm of some thirty artists, traditional dances, local gastronomy, and numerous activities designed to showcase the region’s identity.

Created by Dadi Love, a native of Antsohihy, and sponsored by Yas Madagascar, the Festival Dona-Be was born from a desire to promote his hometown and the culture of the Sofia region. According to the organizers: “The goal is to transform Antsohihy, located in the heart of the region, into a true cultural crossroads and to attract visitors so they can discover, over several days, the local traditions, language, dances, gastronomy, and hospitality.”

This new edition reaches a milestone with more professional organization and an enriched artistic program. Announced artists include Dadi Love, Rijade, Wendy Cathalina, Lico Kininike, Annicette, Parish, and several others, accompanied by DJs who will provide the musical atmosphere throughout the festival.

The organizers aim to promote the cultural wealth of the Sofia region through iconic dances such as the tsahobaka, baoejy, and malesa, as well as through cultural exhibitions and demonstrations.

Rising Momentum

Local gastronomy will also be celebrated with an area dedicated to regional specialties, notably the Antsohihy crab, with other traditional dishes currently in preparation.

Following the improvements made during the third edition—marked by the installation of new structures, a stage, lighting effects, and giant screens—the festival continues to grow. This year, the site will be better arranged and the opening carnival expanded to offer a grander spectacle that better reflects the festival’s image.

The artistic programming is also evolving. While the Festival Dona-Be continues to support artists from the region, it now hosts highly anticipated performers to make the event even more attractive to young audiences.

The event also retains a strong social dimension. This edition includes free ophthalmological consultations and treatments, initiatives for children and pregnant women, and other support programs for the population. Following donations made last year to the Antsohihy prison, the committee also plans to assist certain neighborhoods lacking public lighting.

After a third edition that gained the festival significant visibility, the Festival Dona-Be continues its development with the ambition of sustainably promoting the culture of the Sofia region.
