Nearly ten months after the start of the national refoundation process, expectations surrounding its implementation continue to rise. The current political climate has led several stakeholders to question the clarity of the initiated approach. Meanwhile, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is exerting pressure on the process, calling in its June communiqué for reforms that are “clear, accompanied by a precise calendar, transparent, and open to all stakeholders.” The regional organization also emphasizes the necessity of an inclusive process and a dialogue involving all components of Malagasy society.
At the national level, the Council of Christian Churches of Madagascar (FFKM) is expected to play a major role in preparing the national consultation. “The FFKM occupies a unique position. More than just a mediator, it represents for a large portion of the population a moral reference capable of guaranteeing the meaning and credibility of the ongoing process,” stated Raharinaivo Andrianantoandro, president of Vondrona Ampandrana, in a statement addressed to the heads of the FFKM member churches.
Tasked with preparing this national consultation, the FFKM has not yet organized the meeting, which was originally scheduled in the refoundation calendar for June. For Vondrona Ampandrana, the contours of the process remain imprecise. “To date, the framework for the refoundation remains blurry. No foundational document has yet been formally established to define its orientations, methodology, objectives, and timeline,” the movement emphasized.
Faced with these uncertainties, Vondrona Ampandrana calls on the FFKM to take the initiative by defining a clear framework for national refoundation, mobilizing the country’s active forces, and establishing a transparent schedule. “It is not a matter of slowing down the national process; it is a matter of giving it direction,” the group clarified.
