TSIMBAZAZA – Alleged child kidnapper narrowly escapes lynching

Child kidnappings are on the rise, fueling ongoing anxiety among parents in the capital. Early yesterday afternoon, a woman accused of breaking into a house and attempting to snatch a baby narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob.

Surprised by witnesses, she attempted to flee but was apprehended by the Fokonolona (local community) before being taken to the Fokontany office while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement. According to collected testimonies, the suspect feigned mental instability at the time of her arrest. Amid the commotion, some people began calling for her to be burned alive.

Alerted, a team from the Mahamasina Public Security police station intervened quickly. The woman, the baby, and the baby’s mother were transported to the Brigade for the Protection of Minors at the Tsaralalàna central police station. An investigation has been opened to shed light on the events.

Furthermore, residents of Tsimbazaza claim that a similar attempt occurred the previous evening, when an unidentified person allegedly tried to abduct a child before escaping the crowd.
