Joel, a married father of two boys, was found dead in Amboanjobe. According to witnesses, his body showed signs of mutilation.
A heinous crime shocked Amboanjobe yesterday morning. The lifeless body of Joel, a poultry trader residing in Antsahabe, was discovered near the Place de l’Amitié.
According to initial reports, signs of violence were visible on the remains.
“I saw the body at 7 a.m. The lower part was severely damaged, with only the bones visible. His hands were intact, but his thighs were heavily damaged, as if they had been gnawed at,” said a witness. He noted that traces of blood were found further away, suggesting that Joel was killed elsewhere before being abandoned at the scene.
The area is quiet, with neighboring houses isolated and scattered. Surveillance cameras at a nearby residence, which might have provided clues, were not functioning.
Sum of money
The victim’s wife, Volatiana Françoise Domoinamalala, mother of two boys aged 4 and 9 months, is struggling to come to terms with what happened.
“He always leaves at 5 a.m. and returns by 5 p.m. at the latest. On Wednesday evening, we waited for him, but he didn’t return. This is not like him. He always warns us if he is going to be away. I waited until midnight before locking the house,” she confided, distraught.
She explained that her husband, a former security guard turned poultry trader, often carried a significant amount of cash from his sales. “He could have had 350,000 ariary on him. My mother-in-law told me he stopped by her place around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday with only two chickens and a duck,” she added.
The victim’s uncle also described the circumstances of the discovery. “When I arrived, I recognized Joel. His body showed injuries, notably to his neck and flank, as well as significant lesions on the lower part of his body,” he explained.
Gendarmes and doctors conducted initial investigations before allowing the family to make a decision. “We were asked if we wanted an autopsy. We preferred to take the body directly home,” the uncle continued.
Joel, who was in his forties, was well-known in his neighborhood as a popular poultry seller.
