A tragic accident on the road to Imerinkasinina has claimed the life of Billy Tiana Rakotomalala.
Billy Tiana Rakotomalala, 32, a well-known figure in the world of motorsports, photography, and purebred dog enthusiasts, passed away yesterday at the hospital in Anosy.
The previous evening, Sunday, June 28, around 7:00 PM, his Subaru was involved in a terrible accident. He was returning with his partner from the fourth edition of the asphalt hill climb race held in Imerinkasinina. The tragedy occurred at Ambohiboahangy, in the Andranonomby Fokontany, Ambohimalaza Miray commune.
According to the gendarmerie, while attempting to overtake a vehicle stopped on his right, he struck an embankment on his left. The impact sent the car spinning into the middle of the road. When the gendarmes arrived on the scene, the vehicle he had attempted to avoid had already left.
A witness on the scene recounted: “We witnessed the entire scene, and Billy was indeed at the wheel. There were no police or ambulances present; we were the first to intervene. Due to traffic, he tried to overtake. We don’t know why, but the car hit the embankment and flipped three times before coming to a stop. His wife was ejected from the vehicle and fell onto the embankment, right next to us as we were still attending the trophy ceremony. There was also a man in the car with them.”
The gendarmerie reported significant damage to the Subaru. The left side was completely destroyed, the front was pulverized, and the roof was severely damaged. Billy Tiana sustained critical head and leg injuries. His 27-year-old partner suffered head and arm injuries as well as a fractured jaw. Both were rushed to the HJRA hospital. Despite the care provided, the man did not survive his injuries. The prosecutor’s office has been informed, and an investigation is underway.
