KICKBOXING – AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP – Malagasy athletes sweep twenty-two medals

The kickboxers from the Great Island put on a stellar performance. The Malagasy delegation swept a total of twenty-two medals, including fourteen gold, three silver, and five bronze, at the African Championships held at the Mfandena Gymnasium in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The continental summit took place from June 21st to 27th.

Competing in the -46 kg cadet category, Audrey Ny Oliva Razafindramanitra brilliantly secured a golden hat-trick across three different disciplines: kick light, light contact, and creative form. The final in the men’s -54 kg K1 senior category was an all-Malagasy affair, with Rosalde Razafinomenjanahary defeating his compatriot Jean Joël Raterarison to take the top spot.

Gold in the men’s senior kick light category went to Bienvenu Setratiana. Esmeralda Arompitia Aicha Valerio climbed to the top of the continental podium in the -56 kg full contact category. Meanwhile, Herizo Nazario Rakotoarimalala claimed the continental title in -60 kg light kick, and Tsiory Laza Armel Rhino Ravelosata secured the gold medal in light contact.

The Malagasy Kickboxing and Associated Disciplines Federation sent sixteen fighters to this African summit. The next major international event of the year will be the World Championships in Italy this September.
