FESTIVITIES – Two hundred and fifty buses deployed across several routes

Two hundred and fifty free Foton buses are crisscrossing Antananarivo for the Independence Day celebrations. There are four departure points, multiple rotations, and dozens of municipalities served.

An XXL plan for the holidays. Two hundred and fifty Foton buses will roam the city of Antananarivo and neighboring municipalities on the evening of June 25, as well as the morning and evening of June 26. These shuttles will provide return transport for the public this evening, following the fireworks display at Anosy. They will resume service on June 26 to pick up, from peripheral municipalities, all those who wish to enjoy the grand military parade in Mahamasina, and then return them to their neighborhoods in the evening. This transportation will be free of charge.

The vehicles will depart from 4 strategic points in the capital, with two rotations scheduled for this evening: the first at 8:30 PM and the second at 9:30 PM. The shuttles departing from the Soarano station will pass through Antanimena – Ankorondrano – Marais Masay – Analamahitsy – up to Sabotsy Namehana. Others will pass through Antanimena – Ambohimanarina – Ambohibao – Talatamaty, up to Ivato. The third axis concerns Antanimena – Ankasina – Art Malagasy – Ambohitrimanjaka Intersection – Andranotapahina and Ambohidratrimo.

Other shuttles will depart from Ambohijatovo to serve the Ampasampito – Nanisana – Ambohimangakely – Ambohimalaza axis. Users heading to the western axis can board these buses at ANS Ampefiloha. The shuttles from this departure point will serve Ankasina – Bemasoandro – Itaosy Cité and Anosibe – Anosizato – Ampitatafika – Fenoarivo. For the southern axis, the departure point is the Soanierana station. The buses will head towards Tanjombato – Andoharanofotsy – Iavoloha, or towards the By-pass – Alasora (Domaine) – Ambohimanambola, or By-pass – Ambohijanaka Intersection – Iavoloha – Anjomakely, or even towards the By-pass – Ambohijanaka Village.

The buses will follow the same routes for both the outbound and return trips to allow residents of neighboring municipalities to attend the parade on June 26 and return home peacefully after the festivities. The first departure will take place at 5:30 AM and the second departure at 6:30 AM in the morning. The same organization applies to the evening of June 26. The buses will wait at the same departure points as the previous day, with two return waves scheduled at 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

The mobilization of these public buses is highly appreciated by public transport users. Despite the transporters’ strike on Tuesday, everyone was able to return home thanks to these buses. “These buses are very practical, especially during rush hours, because they are large and can accommodate many people. Furthermore, the taxibe (minibuses) do not provide service as they should. By 6:00 PM, many have stopped working, while the queues at the terminals and stops are still very long,” says Fitahiana Rabemanantsoa, who lives in Fenoarivo.
