MILITARY PARADE – VIPs under high protection

For the first time, bulletproof glass has been installed in the official tribune of the Barea Mahamasina Stadium ahead of the June 26 parade, in order to protect the foreign heads of state expected for the national holiday.

An unprecedented move. Bulletproof glass has been installed in the area reserved for official dignitaries at the Barea Mahamasina Stadium for the June 26 military parade. This exceptional measure is reportedly linked to the expected presence of high-ranking foreign officials, notably African leaders and representatives from Madagascar’s partner countries.

“Heads of state and high-ranking personalities from friendly nations will attend our national holiday,” Ely Razafitombo, Minister of the Armed Forces, stated to the press yesterday, without specifying the identities of the guests for security reasons.

This new installation is part of a reinforced protection scheme. “We must take all necessary precautions to protect the heads of state who will come to attend the event. If an incident occurs, we will be held responsible as the host country. That is why all appropriate measures are being implemented to ensure the safety and protection of our guests of honor,” the minister explained.

Each year, the June 26 military parade is one of the highlights of the Malagasy national holiday. More than just an official ceremony, it symbolizes the commemoration of independence and pays tribute to the Malagasy armed forces, which are celebrating their 66th anniversary this year.

Nearly 3,800 participants will take part in the parade, including military personnel, gendarmes, and police officers. The ceremony will also showcase equipment used by the security forces. Some equipment comes from partner countries, while other assets have been acquired by the State to strengthen operational capabilities.

National Gathering

Beyond the military presentation, the day of June 26 will be marked by several events at the Barea Mahamasina Stadium. Doors will open at 5:30 AM, festivities will begin at 8:30 AM, and the official parade is scheduled for 10:00 AM, lasting three hours.

Security measures have been tightened to oversee the event and protect the public, participants, and expected dignitaries. “Security preparations have lasted for a month. The public has nothing to worry about if they follow the instructions and the planned organization,” reassured Ely Razafitombo.

For the minister, this celebration must remain a moment of national unity. “We encourage the Malagasy people to experience this holiday together in respect, solidarity, and cohesion,” he declared.
