COMIC BOOKS – Hay Tsingory unveils a new generation of comic artists

With its new catalog, Hay Tsingory is highlighting young authors who draw upon Malagasy culture to revitalize the national comic book scene.

The Malagasy comic book industry is receiving a fresh boost. Presented yesterday at the National Library of Anosy, the catalog titled “New Generation, New Inspiration” from the publishing house Hay Tsingory brings together several works by young creators determined to enrich the local publishing landscape.

Through this initiative, the publisher aims to support the emergence of a new wave of authors and offer them greater visibility. The ambition is also to demonstrate that influences from manga and modern comics can blend with Malagasy cultural identity to produce original narratives.

Humor and Realism

Four authors are featured in this catalog, which is now available in bookstores across Antananarivo. The public can discover works such as “Fanambin’i Rijakely” by Riri, “Sioka” and “Azy” by Kura, “Arira Arira” by Cloud Blue, as well as “Loulou Naka” by Mozeration.

Among the titles offered, “Fanambin’i Rijakely” follows the journey of a high school student from a farming family who questions his future after graduation. Blending humor and social realism, the work addresses situations that many young Malagasy people can relate to. Its author, Riri—real name Rindra Razafindrabe—is a press cartoonist and independent author. As a co-founder of the Tantsary association, he is involved in several projects related to youth and cultural development.

With “Sioka,” Kura takes readers on an initiatory journey inspired by Malagasy tales and legends. Two teenagers find themselves immersed in the world of stories told by their grandmother and discover the customs and traditions of the past. The author also offers “Azy,” the story of a young girl from the countryside who dreams of success in Antananarivo but must face numerous obstacles. Passionate about literature since childhood, Kura blends storytelling, reality, and poetry in her works to tell profoundly human stories.
