Double impact. The road in Ambohimiandra will be closed at the beginning of this week. Repair and replacement work on a major water pipe will be carried out in this neighborhood.
“The work will begin this Monday, June 22, 2026, and will last for three days. Throughout the duration of the project, traffic will be completely blocked in the work zone, in front of the Ambohimiandra General Education College (CEG), on the axis connecting Ambohimiandra to Mandroseza,” stated the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) in a press release published yesterday.
As of the time of writing, the capital’s authorities have not provided any specific instructions regarding traffic flow or detour routes.
These operations will also impact water distribution in several sectors. According to Jirama, water will be completely shut off in Ankadifotsy, Manjakaray, Soavimbahoaka, Nanisana, Ampasampito, Ankadindramamy, Ankerana, Analamahitsy, Ivandry, Soavimasoandro, Ambatobe, Masinandrina, Ambohitrarahaba, Ankadikely, Ilafy, and all surrounding localities. “Jirama will increase the deployment of water tankers to distribute water free of charge in these neighborhoods to mitigate the inconvenience caused by this cut,” the company reassured.
Damaged
This project targets the Ambohimiandra pipe, which has been responsible for recurring damage to the road. “This road is constantly being destroyed due to a water leak; we have lost count. New degradation has been observed for a week, and traffic has become hellish. As of this Sunday evening, traffic is completely blocked,” testified a Mandroseza resident. This pipe has a diameter of 500 mm and extends for about 180 meters.
The decision for these works was made jointly by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, the Ministry of Public Works, the Analamanga Region, the Urban Commune of Antananarivo, and Jirama.
Normal water supply is expected to resume gradually after the completion of the work, as the network refills.
