FOOTBALL – PFL SEMI-FINALS – Ajesaia and CFFA to Face Off in Final

Two municipal teams are set to clash in the final. A 1-1 draw was enough for CFFA to secure their ticket to the Pure Play Football League final yesterday at the By-Pass. With an aggregate score of 3-2, the Andoharanofotsy-based side eliminated the defending champions, Elgeco Plus, following their 2-1 victory in the first leg a week ago. The By-Pass team dominated the match, though they struggled initially to find an equalizer. Utilizing a counter-attack in the 40th minute, Cristiano, operating on the left flank, dribbled past four opponents before slotting the ball into the far post. In the final minute of the first half, CHAN Barea player Gone narrowly missed an opportunity to extend the lead.

After the break, a free-kick taken by Mamisoa skimmed the crossbar (54th minute). CFFA was put under pressure and relied on sporadic attacks. “The match was highly contested, but we were luckier. My players held on until the very end. We tried everything to maintain our advantage, as a one-goal lead was not safe enough,” admitted Franck Rajaonarisamba, the coach of CFFA.

Elgeco Plus narrowed the gap with a goal from Zola in the 75th minute, capitalizing on a spill by goalkeeper Goal Kely. Despite desperate attempts to find an equalizer, the defending champions rushed their play and failed to level the score. “The players struggled to get into the game. We couldn’t capitalize on our dominant spells and missed our chances,” lamented Oelison Careca Rafanomezantsoa.

Victory on Penalties

Meanwhile, Ajesaia eliminated Disciples FC, the 2024 champions of Madagascar. The Antaninkatsaka team triumphed after a tense shootout against the Vakinankaratra side last Saturday at the By-Pass (1-1, 6-5 on penalties). Ajesaia, the national champion in 2007 and 2009, makes a triumphant return to the final, ten years after their last title. The Bemasoandro club had previously defeated the Antsirabe team 1-0 in the first leg held at Iavoloha a week ago. Led by former Scorpions captain Mamisoa Razafindrako, the team dominated the second leg but struggled to finish. The ‘Yellows’ imposed their style of play after the break, with Ramody missing at least two clear opportunities.

In the final minute of regulation time, Disciples FC equalized through Fabrice, following an error by goalkeeper Berni. With the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the game went to penalties, where Ajesaia won 6-5. Barea right-back Rado Rabemanantsoa missed his spot-kick twice; the first was saved by the CHAN 2025 goalkeeper, though the referee ordered a retake because Berni had advanced off his line. On the second attempt, Rado sent the ball over the crossbar.
