A shootout erupted in Anosibe on Thursday evening. The Anti-Gang Service (SAG) successfully rescued a teenager who had been held captive by her abductors. No ransom was paid.
An abduction caused fear and confusion in the Anosibe neighborhood on Thursday evening. Three children from the same family—a boy and his two sisters—were targeted by armed kidnappers. The boy and one of the girls were quickly released, but their 17-year-old sister was held hostage. The perpetrators demanded a ransom of 20 million ariary for her release.
Alerted by the family, the National Police intervened without delay. The Central Anti-Gang Service (SAG) deployed units to the Ampangabe and Anosibe areas to locate the abductors and rescue the victim. Around 9:00 p.m., as the criminals attempted to move the teenager, they encountered law enforcement, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
The police’s priority was to ensure the girl’s safety. Taking advantage of the confusion, the abductors fled into the neighborhood’s alleys, abandoning their hostage. According to information gathered, one of them was reportedly wounded by gunfire and is currently being sought. No payment was made. The investigation has been entrusted to the Criminal Brigade.
Threats by telephone
The father of the children, a bicycle-taxi driver, stated he was caught completely off guard. Upon returning from a family funeral, he learned that his children had been approached by strangers. The abductors then used his son to contact him before threatening him directly over the phone.
“Hello, we have your daughter. If you want her to stay alive, you must pay 30 million ariary,” they allegedly told him. The father claims he replied that it was impossible for him to raise such a sum. The abductors then retorted, “Your daughter or the money,” before lowering their demand to 20 million ariary.
They then gave him an appointment near Sonatra, in Anosibe, just minutes after the call. “Hurry up, we are waiting for you with the money,” they reportedly ordered.
Thanks to the police intervention, the teenager was freed unharmed. “Without them, my daughter would not be here today,” her father declared. The area was searched for most of the night to track down the perpetrators of the kidnapping.
