The Fête de la Musique Grand Concert will unite ‘kaiamba’ and jazz in a unique collaborative performance on June 21 at the Institut français de Madagascar (IFM) in Analakely.
On June 21, the Institut français de Madagascar (IFM) will celebrate the Fête de la Musique, with artistic exchange serving as the central theme of its programming. The event, open to all, will kick off in the morning under the IFM arcades with an open stage dedicated to the younger musical generation. The public will have the opportunity to discover the diverse musical worlds of MC Hope, KarmiK, Mayah, Ithuriel, Naïnako, Mobby, Yellow Tree, M’iray Kalo, and Mbaoé. This opening segment will highlight the diversity of musical influences present in Madagascar today.
Subsequently, the Grand Concert, scheduled for 3:30 PM in the Salle Albert Camus, will honor three icons of the Malagasy music scene: Oza Jérôme, Proshely, and the Weaver Trio.
For this 2026 edition, the IFM is presenting an original collaboration between two major figures of ‘kaiamba’ and a jazz ensemble renowned for its modern approach. This artistic encounter will give birth to an unprecedented dialogue between traditional Malagasy sounds and contemporary jazz harmonies.
A true monument of Malagasy music, Oza Jérôme has established himself as one of the leading figures of the ‘kaiamba’ genre. As a singer, songwriter, and musician, he has influenced multiple generations with essential tracks such as ‘Volazara’, as well as ‘Fotsy hely’, ‘Tambitamby lava’, ‘Mbola ho avy’, and ‘Tsy anjara’. He is also among the historic members of the group ‘Kaiamba tena izy’.
Alongside him, Proshely (real name Noasy Prosperely) will contribute his extensive experience to this musical creation. An emblematic figure of the ‘kaiamba’ movement, he began his career at just 12 years old. Nicknamed the ‘magician of kaiamba’, he has distinguished himself not only as a singer and composer but also as an arranger, helping to shape the sonic identity of many Malagasy artists.
The contemporary touch will be provided by the Weaver Trio, a jazz group formed in 2018 in Madagascar. Inspired by the ‘Fody’, a Malagasy bird known for its adaptability, the group embraces music open to multiple influences. Accustomed to major events such as Madajazzcar, the Yelewa Jazz Festival in Mayotte, and Jazz Tohatohabato, the trio regularly revisits traditional Malagasy songs while developing their own original compositions.
Through this encounter of musical heritage, improvisation, and creation, the IFM intends to celebrate the richness of artistic expression and foster intergenerational dialogue. It is a singular musical experience that promises to unveil new sonic colors for the audience in Analakely.
