A new development has emerged in the Qnet Infinity case in Mahajanga, which was officially classified as fraud by the Mahajanga Public Prosecutor, Dr. André Andrimpirenena, last week. Following the prosecutor’s statement regarding these fraudulent activities, victims from the Vakinankaratra region decided to file a complaint against the company, which is headquartered in Ambalavato. On Friday, an individual was apprehended at the company’s branch in Ambalavato by officers from the Criminal Research Section (SRC) of the Mahajanga National Gendarmerie.
“The individual is currently under investigation by the Criminal Research Section following complaints from several victims. He is considered one of the masterminds behind the fraudulent activities of Qnet Infinity, which claims to specialize in international trade or digital marketing. Recruiters promised they could find overseas job opportunities for these workers. We call for cooperation to put an end to this swindling in Mahajanga,” stated Squadron Leader Nandrasana Angelo Rinaldy, head of the Criminal Research Section of the National Gendarmerie, on Friday.
In July, National Police officers raided the Qnet Infinity branch headquarters in Fiofio, seizing goods and equipment and suspending operations. On August 7, eleven out of forty-one individuals summoned from the Qnet Infinity Millennials Team were remanded in custody for fraud.
The Anti-Corruption Pole (PAC) has also issued a wanted notice since August for two foreign nationals—a Comorian and an Ivorian—as part of the dismantling of the Infinity Millennials pyramid scheme and fraud network (affiliated with QNET). These two individuals have unfortunately fled abroad and are identified as key players or masterminds of the organization.
Victims were lured by false promises of jobs and exorbitant salaries, as well as the prospect of receiving all-terrain vehicles within two months of receiving their first salary. All of this was combined with a mandatory purchase of a “biodisc” for 3,650,000 Ariary.
“We were deceived and were afraid to speak out. We felt scammed; they made us dream. We haven’t received our salaries since August. When we complained, they always claimed our training was insufficient and forced us to undergo more. There were more than three hundred of us participating in this training every day,” testified victims from Vakinankaratra.
