In Moscow, President Michaël Randrianirina reaffirmed Madagascar’s support for the Russia-Africa partnership, focusing on sovereignty, trade, and productive sectors.
The third Russia-Africa summit opened in Moscow on October 28 and 29, attended by several African leaders, including Colonel Michaël Randrianirina. For Madagascar, this meeting is an opportunity to strengthen relations with Russia and explore new avenues for cooperation, particularly in energy, agriculture, and infrastructure.
During his speech, the Malagasy President emphasized the need to strengthen this partnership while respecting national sovereignty and priorities. He stated, “Madagascar agrees on the necessity of strengthening this partnership based on mutual respect and the consideration of each country’s priorities.”
Beyond diplomatic statements, the Head of State highlighted several needs that cooperation with Russia could address, including structural reforms, transparent elections, and support in energy, agricultural equipment, and access to drinking water. He also expressed a desire to strengthen partnerships to support production chains for the processing of export products locally, rather than just exporting raw materials.
Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the African continent’s assets, particularly its youth and agricultural potential, and mentioned the creation of large centers for agricultural product management. The challenge for Madagascar will now be to translate these discussions into concrete cooperation projects.
