WEATHER FORECAST – Thunderstorms expected in Antananarivo

A significant weather disturbance is set to affect Madagascar from October 28 to 30, 2026. “The approach of an active cloud band from the south of the country will favor the rapid and widespread development of thunderstorms across several regions,” warns forecaster Rakotomanana Zoherilalaina from the General Directorate of Meteorology.

For the Analamanga region and the entire Central Highlands, the change in weather will be felt as early as this Wednesday, with local thunderstorms appearing in the afternoon. This unstable weather is part of a general deterioration of atmospheric conditions across the Great Island. Meteorological authorities have issued a specific alert for Thursday, October 29. “Rainfall accumulation, estimated between 60 and 80 mm in 24 hours, is expected in the Southeast,” the forecaster added. He urges the localities of Fitovinany, Mananjary, Vohibato, Farafangana, Vondrozo, and Ivohibe to remain vigilant against the risks of runoff and local flooding.

According to the forecasts provided by Zoherilalaina Rakotomanana, Thursday and Friday will remain dominated by strong stormy instability over a large part of the country, with the exception of the North, which is expected to remain relatively spared.
