From the interception of 800 tortoises in Mahajanga in December 2024 to the arrest of a Tanzanian national at Ivato in October 2026, several cases have highlighted the cross-border dimension of protected tortoise trafficking in Madagascar. A Tanzanian national, suspected of being involved in tortoise trafficking networks, was arrested on October 17th.
