The Road Safety Task Force conducted a control operation at PK 16 on National Route 2 in Ambohimalaza on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM. According to the report released by the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, eighteen vehicles were impounded due to various traffic violations identified during the inspection.
Twenty-one mixed-unit personnel were deployed for this operation, including five from the General Directorate of Road Safety (DGSR), six from the National Police, four from the National Gendarmerie, and six from the Land Transport Agency (ATT).
The operation aimed to combat traffic accidents. Measures were taken against violation-prone behaviors and blatant technical anomalies. The mission also focused on raising awareness among road users regarding the proper securing of containers, the prohibition of LED and blinding lights, maintaining appropriate speeds, and driving without the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In total, 103 vehicles and 101 motorcycles were inspected or sensitized, along with approximately 915 individuals, including pedestrians and passengers. One case of missing twist locks was noted, and ten LED, strobe, or unauthorized decorative lights were removed.
Driving under the influence dominated the report. Eighteen drivers were apprehended: eight by the Traffic Accident Brigade (BAC)—including three motorcyclists and five vehicle drivers—who were taken into custody, and ten by the ATT—five motorcyclists and five vehicle drivers—without custody. Additionally, the BAC recorded six infractions for lack of a driver’s license, and the ATT recorded five for passenger insecurity.
