The Ministry of Communication and Culture has honored twenty gospel artists for their contribution to the promotion of culture and their role within society.
Gospel music is gaining institutional recognition. Twenty artists received the honorary distinction of Arts, Letters, and Culture yesterday in tribute to their contributions. Among them, eleven were elevated to the rank of Commander, six received the grade of Officer, and three were named Knights of the Order. This distinction is available to artists with at least ten years of professional activity.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Communication and Culture, Gascar Fenosoa, highlighted the role of gospel artists in the country’s development. “Preaching the Gospel is not limited to songs and sermons. It also contributes to strengthening solidarity, mutual trust, and peace,” he stated. He also noted that “gospel songs can comfort the population and restore hope to the discouraged.”
The Minister called on artists to ensure their work has a real impact on their audience and contributes to national renewal in a spirit of love and fraternity. He also assured that the Ministry’s doors remain open to all artists to support talent and initiatives for cultural development. The Ministry intends to make this initiative a recurring event with a second edition to continue recognizing gospel artists and their contribution to Malagasy culture.
However, this recognition does not eliminate the difficulties faced by gospel artists. Mamy, a member of the group Antsan’i Kristy, points out that “gospel music is primarily a means of preaching and not an activity intended to generate income.” Artists must therefore continue their mission with the resources they have.
Through this distinction, the authorities highlight the contribution of gospel artists to cultural and social life while emphasizing the significance of their commitment to the public.
