MUSIC – Lego’s health condition is improving

After suffering a stroke at the end of August, the singer and accordionist from the North is continuing his recovery at home, where he is undergoing physical therapy sessions.

Lego’s health is improving. The Malagasy singer and accordionist, who suffered a stroke (CVA), has left the hospital and is continuing his convalescence at home. According to his wife, he is now able to eat properly again and is attending physical therapy sessions to regain the abilities affected by the stroke.

“His condition is evolving favorably. We returned home after his discharge from the hospital. He can eat well again. For the moment, he is following physical therapy sessions to mitigate the aftereffects of the stroke,” she explained.

Born Hasivelo Roméo Andriamandresy, Lego was rushed to the Befelatanana hospital after a sharp rise in his blood pressure. The stroke had caused paralysis on the right side of his body. His medical treatment began on August 28, his wife specified. Following hospital treatment, the artist has begun his rehabilitation.

Born in 1973 in Antsiranana, Lego is an iconic figure of Northern Madagascar music and a virtuoso of the diatonic accordion. Coming from a family of artists, he discovered the instrument early on and learned to master it as a self-taught musician.

After his professional debut in Antananarivo as a dancer and musician, notably within Rossy’s group, he founded his own band in the late 1980s. His repertoire blends genres such as salegy and bahoejy, contributing to the renewal of traditional Northern rhythms.

His popularity grew from the late 1990s with albums like “Dadilahy” (1999), “Madagascar” (2001), and “Jobyhely” (2003). His songs evoke daily life, cultural values, and Malagasy social realities. His stage energy and mastery of the accordion have also led him to perform internationally, introducing Northern sounds beyond the borders.

Surrounded by his loved ones, Lego is now focusing on his functional rehabilitation. The improvement in his health is encouraging news for his audience.
