A young man suffering from mental health issues has been arrested in Ampitatafika after being accused of chasing and assaulting passersby. The gendarmerie is now searching for his cannabis supplier.
The 24-year-old man, a resident of Andrefambohitra, Ampitatafika, had been the subject of numerous complaints from local residents. He allegedly chased pedestrians with pieces of brick and assaulted them, with students frequently falling victim to his violent behavior.
Following his arrest by the gendarmerie, he was handed over to municipal authorities yesterday, who plan to transport him to the Anjanamasina psychiatric facility. According to an investigator, the suspect’s family attributes his mental instability to cannabis consumption. He had previously received treatment at Anjanamasina but relapsed after leaving the facility. Authorities are currently investigating his drug source.
As the family lacks the financial means to cover further specialized treatment, the local municipality has decided to take charge of the necessary arrangements.
