A fire broke out yesterday morning in Antanimena Andrefana, likely originating from an electrical meter. The flames ravaged the living room of a two-story house, but no casualties were reported.
According to initial findings by firefighters and witness accounts, the fire started at an electrical meter before spreading rapidly to nearby objects. The intervention of neighbors and emergency services helped limit the damage. The incident occurred around 8:20 AM in a two-story house located within a fenced property along the railway tracks.
“I was ironing when someone shouted that there was a fire downstairs. The meter was burning, and the flames had reached the cardboard boxes placed next to it. We were scared and got out quickly,” recounted a young occupant. Neighbors attempted to extinguish the flames while alerting the fire department. The fire intensified, and explosions were heard.
Arriving six minutes after the call, emergency responders found that the flames had spread from the stairwell to the second floor. They extinguished the fire after forty-five minutes of intervention.
“The house has seven rooms. The living room was the most affected: about 80% of the belongings there were destroyed. The other six rooms were spared. A short circuit in the meter installed near the stairs is believed to be the cause of the disaster,” the firefighters stated.
