An ideal start for Hajduk Split. The Croatian club of Barea defender Mathieu Acapandié won its first UEFA Conference League match by defeating Ajax Amsterdam (2-1) at home on Thursday evening during the first matchday.
Hajduk Split led 1-0 at halftime. Ajax equalized early in the second half (53rd minute), but Acapandié’s teammates regained the lead two minutes later (55th minute).
The Dutch club dominated ball possession (55% to 45%) and attempted more shots (13 to 11). However, Hajduk Split proved more precise, with eight shots on target compared to three for Ajax.
Having joined the Croatian club this season—a six-time national champion and winner of nine Cups and five Supercups—Acapandié has recorded fourteen starts. The 21-year-old Malagasy defender previously played for FC Nantes, where he was active from 2019 to 2026.
For the second matchday on October 22, Hajduk Split will travel to face FC Thun in Switzerland.
