Minister of Justice Fanirisoa Ernaivo has provided details regarding the release of eleven Chinese detainees and the ongoing search efforts. She confirmed that four have already left Madagascar, while the remaining seven are still being sought within the national territory.
Upon returning from Mauritius, Minister Fanirisoa Ernaivo presented her version of the events surrounding the release of the eleven Chinese nationals. She refuted the accusations made against her by the secretary-general of the prison officers’ union in a video posted on Facebook.
“I categorically reject these defamatory accusations, especially since I have done everything in my power to have this group of Chinese individuals arrested and sanctioned. I would not act lightly in a case involving international agreements,” the Minister stated upon her arrival at Ivato Airport.
To support her explanation, Fanirisoa Ernaivo presented documents bearing the signatures that authorized the transfer of the eleven Chinese detainees to Antanimora prison. According to the Minister, four of them have left Madagascar, while the other seven remain on national soil and are currently the subject of a manhunt.
“These Chinese nationals fear being incarcerated in China, where detention conditions are more severe. They are still on the territory and are already subject to a wanted notice,” she affirmed.
The Minister also clarified that her instructions, in this case as in any other, are directed to the Director General of the Prison Administration and not to the prison officers’ union, emphasizing the respective responsibilities of the parties involved. “No instructions are addressed to the union. The prison officers’ union has no authority over the functioning of the justice system,” she declared.
