VOLUNTEERING – Solidarity initiatives in the spotlight

The fifteenth edition of the French Volunteering Day (JVF) was held yesterday, Friday, October 16, at the City Hall and on the Analakely square. Organized by France Volontaires Madagascar, this event highlights the contribution of international volunteers to sustainable development. About thirty associative and institutional stands welcomed the public on the Analakely square. Visitors were able to discover the activities of the organizations present, exchange with volunteers, and participate in workshops. Round tables, a portrait exhibition, as well as artistic and cultural performances were also on the program.

This edition is themed around the contribution of international volunteers to the Sustainable Development Goals. It is part of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, proclaimed by the United Nations for 2026. In Madagascar, volunteers work in several fields, including education, health, environment, social inclusion, culture, and local development.

Solidarity initiatives were also honored. Arsène Rafanomezantsoa won the first prize in the solidarity mini-project competition with his project “Low Tech Mada”. In the slam category, prizes were awarded to Joachim Randriamampandry, Mahaymitsinjo Rabenjarison, and Fanasina Fanomezantsoa, members of the Slam Poetry of Tana collective from the French Institute of Madagascar. The finals of both competitions took place on October 14 at the Catholic University of Madagascar.

The day serves as a meeting space between associations, institutions, and the public. It allows for raising awareness about engagement opportunities, presenting actions carried out on the ground, and sensitizing visitors to citizenship and international solidarity. Partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding were also among the planned activities.

International volunteering contributes to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals.
