AMPANIHY-OUEST – Three murder suspects arrested

A pregnant woman with albinism was found dead on September 17 in the rural commune of Ankilizato, in the Ampanihy district, Atsimo-Andrefana region. The suspects were pursued by the local community (fokonolona) before three of them were apprehended by law enforcement. The information was confirmed by the Ampanihy brigade commander. The individual believed to have committed the murder reportedly confessed to the crime. Among the three suspects, two are from the communes of Maniry and Ampanihy, while the third is from Vohitany. These suspects have been transferred to the central police station in Toliara.

However, a family member of the victim is demanding clarification on several gray areas. “Nearly a month after the murder, a part of our relative’s body remains missing. The perpetrators, despite confessing to the crime, have not revealed the location of the removed body part. We are waiting to recover it before proceeding with the burial,” explained a family member on a regional public radio station in Toliara.

The family member also alleged that a mayor and the nurse who performed the death verification demanded approximately 1.5 million ariary. He denounced the mayor’s potential involvement in the crime. “We ask that our case be considered by the media and the authorities, as we feel forgotten here in the bush,” the family member concluded.
