Traffic – Alert regarding defective airbags

Defective airbags are exposing 1,319 vehicles in Madagascar to risks of serious injury or even death. CFAO Mobility and the General Directorate of Road Safety (DGSR) are urging affected owners to have these components replaced free of charge.

According to CFAO Mobility Madagascar, nearly 1,300 vehicles currently on the road in Madagascar are affected by a defect in Takata-brand airbags. Company officials and the DGSR have highlighted this anomaly and raised the alarm regarding the risks it poses to motorists. The affected models include Toyota Corolla, Hilux, Fortuner, and the Mitsubishi L200, produced between 2005 and 2016. Inspection and replacement of the defective equipment are entirely free.

“We are informing the owners of the affected vehicles about the presence of this defect. We invite them to have their vehicles checked and to proceed with the free replacement of the device if necessary,” explains Ravaka Ratiarison, After-Sales Customer Relations Manager at CFAO Mobility.

The malfunction of these critical safety components poses a direct risk to the safety of occupants. “The deployment of these Takata airbags can cause serious or even fatal injuries,” warns Colonel Rija Alberto Rakotomampianina, Head of the Operations and Road Control Service at the DGSR.

Intended to protect in the event of a collision, a defective airbag can worsen the consequences of an accident instead of limiting its impact. “We call on owners to take this alert seriously and to have their vehicle checked without delay,” insists Squadron Leader Jacques Didier Rakotondramanana, Head of Public Relations at the DGSR. He also invites law enforcement officers (police and gendarmes) operating on the road network to participate in this awareness campaign.

Takafumi Nishikawa, Director of Operations at CFAO Mobility, stated, “These 1,319 vehicles must have their airbags replaced in Madagascar. We solicit the cooperation of users to prevent accidents and protect their lives as well as those of their loved ones.” Affected users are invited to contact CFAO Mobility centers to benefit from the free diagnosis and intervention.
